About

A works that stays behind the label

ALABRINE has made diffuser bodies in Aveiro since 2013. There is no ALABRINE product on any shelf anywhere, and that is deliberate.

The company began by casting plaster components for the ceramics factories around Aveiro, which is a reliable business and a dull one. The first diffuser stones were a side order for a Lisbon fragrance house in 2015 and within three years they were most of what we made.

Why we do not sell our own brand

A manufacturer with its own retail line competes with its clients for the same shelf. We decided early not to, which means a fragrance house can send us their bestselling form without wondering whether a version of it will appear under our name next season. It also means we can decline work without a commercial motive behind the refusal.

What has changed since 2013

  • Minimums came down from 2,000 pieces to 500, because that is where independent brands actually are.
  • Absorption became a published figure rather than an internal one. Clients need it to write their own copy.
  • Sealers went water-based across the whole line in 2019.
  • Ceramic came back. We had dropped it in 2016 and reinstated it in 2021 for car and wardrobe formats.

The district

Aveiro and the towns around it have made ceramics since the eighteenth century. The reason a works this size can operate here is the network: mould suppliers, pigment stockists, kiln engineers and packaging printers all within forty minutes. Somewhere without that, we would be a slower and more expensive business.

How we work with clients

Directly, in English or Portuguese, with the same two people from first enquiry to shipping. No agents, no minimum term, no exclusivity clause in either direction. If your volumes outgrow us we will say so and, where we can, point you at a larger works in the district.
